Cheer Up

Cheer Up
The sofa payment fell behind
My credit card had been declined
Due to unusual activity
Was stuck behind a caravan
No someone's dressed as Spider-man
In the junior school nativity
Maybe a film could lift my mind
I've flicked through Netflix for some time
There's no energy left to exert
No one's in, I'm home alone
I'm sitting drinking on my own
And I've just spilt my cider down my shirt
If you listen carefully, a distant sound is heard, far, far, far away
Whispered through a bushy beard, softly spoken words, this is what they say
Cheer up everyone, it’s Christmas
Cheer up everyone, it’s Christmas
A time for dreams of hope and cheer
Lasting hours into next year
Then you’ll be, waiting for next Christmas
I sending cards to people who
Have sent me cards out of the blue
Most of whom I haven’t seen for years
Presents that I need to buy
In order to satisfy
But struggling to think of gift ideas
Buying things nobody needs
Superfluous things are received
Surely this must be a paradox
Retailers waiting to invoice
I can't decide there's too much choice
Suppose I could get everybody socks
If you listen carefully, a distant sound is heard, far, far, far away
Whispered through a bushy beard, softly spoken words, this is what they say
Cheer up everyone, it’s Christmas etc.etc.
With all those presents on his list
Better hope Saint Nick exists
Or you’ll be, waiting for next Christmas

Lost

Lost
We've walked so many miles, my whole body seems to ache
And wearing toe-post sandals, that was a big mistake
We're off on an adventure and at least the weather's nice
But who on earth would do this, it’s really not that wise
We’ve been carrying three gifts, and they weigh a tonne
They're not the kind of childish things that would inspire fun
The reaction might be muted, if he were to behold
Some aromatic resins, and great big chunk of gold
I think we're lost, we don't know where we are
What do you expect if you start following a star
So many constellations, causing consternation
We've travelled miles yet haven't got that far
(If only) we had asked directions, as we travelled through
But everybody knows that's something men will never do
The other two just stared when I suggested we backtrack
For a life of privilege I guess this is payback
We've found a place to rest for sore eyes, it is such a sight
The inn keeper has said that is has, been a busy night
We ought to keep on moving, but our route isn't that clear
Therefore it seems quite reasonable, to try the local beer
I think we're lost, we don't know where we are
What do you expect if you start following a star
So many constellations, causing consternation
We've travelled miles yet haven't got that far
We've exchanged out presents, and got a few more drinks
There's a nice guy at the bar, who's told us what he thinks
He said we missed a turning, about 3 days ago
When we passed the road works going into Jericho
We told him of our story, and how we'd lost our way
And with new found enthusiasm said he couldn't stay
The man said he was going home, and bid us a "Good night"
And thanked us for the idea for a book he planned to write
I think we're lost, we don't know where we are
It would have been much easier if we'd rented a car
One of us could navigate, but now we've left it all too late
We've travelled miles yet haven't got that far
I guess we stay here propping up this bar

Yes Please!

Yes Please!
The time of year soon comes around, the nights are drawing in
And it's got quite cold
The fridge is packed with loads of stuff, the cupboard's bursting too
It's something to behold
And when the time comes to devour more food
We all sit down at the table
Metabolism is unstable
Our last meal was three hours ago
Yes please! I'll have another Turkey Sandwich
You know I'll never understand it
When you say, you don't like, them anyway
It's a pity to confine them, just to Christmas day
Yes please! I'd like another Turkey Sandwich
I will concoct a cunning plan which
would ensure, availability much more,
At any supermarket, or convenience store
I've used florescent marker pen, to highlight what to watch
In the TV Guide
Half of us want Finding Nemo, others want James Bond
We just can't decide
And when the time comes to devour more food
We all sit down at the table
Metabolism is unstable
Our last meal was three hours ago
Yes please! I'll have another Turkey Sandwich
You know I'll never understand it
When you say, you don't like, them anyway
It's a pity to confine them, just to Christmas day
Yes please! I'd like another Turkey Sandwich
I will concoct a cunning plan which
would ensure, availability much more,
At any supermarket, or convenience store
Setting on the sofa, we couldn't be more full
We're comatosed, and we've undone our belts
We've eaten all the crisps and nuts, and the Chocolates too
but we still fancy something else
There's no surprise there's so much left, we bought enough to feed
A family of ten
But I could leave the main event, go to the after show
Again and again
And when the time comes to devour more food
We all sit down at the table
Metabolism is unstable
Our last meal was three hours ago
Yes please! I'll have another Turkey Sandwich
You know I'll never understand it
When you say, you don't like, them anyway
It's a pity to confine them, just to Christmas day
Yes please! I'd like another Turkey Sandwich
I will concoct a cunning plan which
would ensure, availability much more,
At any supermarket, or convenience store
